This
course provides an excellent review of radiation
biology and radiation protection. It includes
the following topics: introduction to radiation
protection, basic interactions of radiation with
matter, radiation quantities and units, limits
for exposure to ionizing radiation, and an overview
of cell biology, radiation biology, protection
of the patient during diagnostic procedures, protecting
occupationally exposed personnel during diagnostic
procedures and radiation monitoring.
The course includes a textbook
(Radiation Protection in Medical Radiography,
5th edition by Mary Alice Statkiewicz Sherer,
Paul Visconti, and Russell Ritenour) and a posttest
with 120 multiple-choice questions. This course
applies to radiologic technologists (RTs) and
limited radiographers.
