Blunt trauma injuries occurring
in the abdomen, pelvis, and retroperitoneum are
a significant cause of morbidity and mortality
in trauma patients and the use of multimodality
imaging with conventional radiography, multidetector
computed tomography (CT) is increasing being used
to help diagnose injuries in trauma patients.
This course covers the classic patterns of blunt
trauma to the abdomen, pelvis and retroperitoneum
and the CT imaging protocols and procedures used
in the timely diagnosis, treatment, and management
of these injuries. A section is devoted to radiation
protection and CT examinations.
The course contains 3 parts.
Part 1 Multidetector CT Evaluation of Active
Extravasation in Blunt Abdominal and Pelvic
Trauma Patients. Part 2 Traumatic Retroperitoneal
Injuries: Review of Multidetector CT Findings.
Part 3 Radiation Protection and CT. Part 1 and
Part 2 are web-based documents. You will be
sent directions with a link to access the reading
references. Part 3 will be sent via email. This
course posttest has 40 multiple-choice questions.
This course applies to all radiographers, radiologic
technologists (RTs) and limited radiographers.
