This homestudy
course titled Digital Mammography Selected Topics:
Overview, Breast Tomosynthesis, Artifacts provides
a comprehensive overview of digital mammography.
There are four major sections of the course:
- Introduction to Digital Imaging
and Digital Mammography;
- Digital Mammography: An Overview;
- Breast Tomosynthesis: Present
Considerations and Future Applications: and,
- Digital Mammographic Artifacts
on Full-Field Systems: What are They and How
Do I Fix Them?
The following is a brief summary
of the contents of each of the four major sections
of the course.
- Introduction to Digital
Imaging and Digital Mammography includes
an introduction to digital imaging and computer
systems, research studies of importance to
digital mammography, breast cancer statistics
and breast abnormalities, breast cancer screening,
benefit versus risk of mammography, radiation
dose parameters, radiation exposure and risk
during mammography, mammography equipment
design for the reduction of radiation exposure,
computer-aided diagnosis, and picture-archiving
and communication system.
- Digital Mammography:
An Overview provides current information
about digital detector technology to include
slot scanning with a scintillator and a charged-coupled
device (CCD) array, an flat-panel scintillator
an amorphous silicon diode array, flat-panel
amorphous selenium array, tiled scintillator
with fiberoptic tapers and a CCD array, and
photosimulable phosphor plates.
- Breast Tomosynthesis:
Present Considerations and Future Applications
provides timely information about breast tomosynthesis;
what it is and the advantages and disadvantages
of its application in breast imaging.
- Digital Mammographic Artifacts
on Full-Field Systems: What are They and How
Do I Fix Them? Provides very recent information
about artifacts commonly seen with full-field
digital mammography systems. The section provides
images illustrating the artifacts discussed,
causes, and probable solutions for overcoming
them in future examinations.
This course applies to all radiographers
both RT's and limited radiographers.
